Janice Rago Atlanta, Georgia

Janice Rago was born in Hawaii and grew up moving around the world. Her young life was molded from cultures in the South Pacific, Europe and South Georgia. With that background her style has developed into a diverse and eclectic collection of figures and styles. Her work combines female figures, florals and patterns while exploring new mediums and techniques to bring it to life.

She has been in over 40 solo and group art shows; showcased paintings in both public and private spaces; has been commissioned by private collectors, businesses and designers; painted murals from Florida to California, including downtown Valdosta; collaborated with talented professional artists; and has donated paintings to raise money for various non-profits and charities close to her heart.

She has a BFA in Studio Art from Valdosta State University and is currently residing in Atlanta, GA as a professional artist.

What is Art for you?

Art is something that makes me feel and think. Whether it be me as the artist or the viewer – I love that it evokes emotion.

What is chocolate to you?

Chocolate for me is nostalgia. Makes me happy and brings back memories of growing up. It also reminds me of my dad – he has the biggest sweet tooth!

What inspires you, and this piece in particular?

My inspiration comes from female beauty, patterns, and florals. You can see it circulating through my art. The piece with the female figure with the wings over her eyes is a painting I created right at the beginning of Covid. When no one really understood what was happening and everyone had to be ‘quarantined’. It’s titled ‘Finding Strength in the Inevitable”. The second painting is a series that came to life while I was creating my solo exhibition last year. It’s a play on florals and shadows. It’s titled “Grow your Shadow l”
